Mike and Jayne Donnelly...... plus one!

Alexander

Hi Everyone,
On April 28th at about 4:00 in the afternoon we finally got the call we had been waiting for.....there is an 8 month old baby boy waiting for us in Kaliningrad, Russia. The love and well-wishes have been pouring in and we want to share all the news with everyone as it happens.

Here we will document the details of our Russian adventure as we go to meet, adopt and then finally bring home, our baby boy Alexander.

May Day at Inspiration Point.
Alexander turns 9 months old today.

Setting up the nursery...

Series of Events from the Beginning

December 16, 2003 We go to our first informational meeting about adoption in San Francisco.

March 23, 2004 We have decided on the agencies we want to use, and that we are going to pursue international adoption in Russia. Adoption Connection and Adoption and Aid International are our agencies.

August 2, 2004 All our paperwork is done, notarized, apostilled, and delivered to the agency. Now, nothing to do but wait....

October 2004 By this time our paperwork has been submitted to Russia, translated and delivered to the ophanage facilities in Kaliningrad.

April 2005 Our agency assures us that we would hear nothing until after May, and most likely much later. We decide to go ahead and make the move to Ashland. We sell the house and begin looking for a place to live in Ashland while we build. We begin working with our agency to update our documentation to transfer to Oregon.

April 28th Feeling a little perterbed with the agency because we really want to ask them some questions about updating our documents, we finally get a phone call. Only it's not about paperwork, it's about a baby boy that is available for adoption and would we like to hear more!!!!  YES!!
It took a little while to sink in......there's a baby waiting for us. We got the picture, Jayne cried and called grandparents. His name is Alexander.

May 2nd We get more details about Alexander and get a whole new set of papers to deal with and give the official word that we want to adopt him. Now we wait for the dates for our first trip. With Russian adoption two trips are necessary. One to meet the child; the Russian government wants you to meet the child before setting a court date, and a second trip to go to court and make it official. The trips are about 4-6 weeks apart.

May 3rd We have our dates - we leave for Kaliningrad, Russia on May 22nd and will meet Alexander on May 24th.

May 7th We began setting up the nursery....
